Fee on Debit Card Payments in GEL in International Channels

Starting April 15, 2026, payments made with a debit card in international channels in the national currency (GEL) will be subject to a fee of 1.5% of the transaction amount (maximum 10 GEL).

The fee will apply only to transactions where the customer selects the national currency -Georgian Lari (GEL) — as the settlement currency when paying with a debit card through international e-commerce channels and/or POS terminals. The fee will not apply to payments made in foreign currencies (USD, EUR, GBP, etc.).

The fee applies to payments made with any type of debit card, including both personal debit cards (among them Pupil card) and business debit cards.

For example:

A customer wishes to purchase a product or service from a foreign merchant priced at 60 EUR. The merchant offers the option to select the national currency (GEL) as the payment currency, in which case the price of the product/service is set at 192 GEL.

If the customer selects EUR as the payment currency, the transaction amount will be 60 EUR. If the customer selects GEL as the payment currency, the transaction amount (the price set by the merchant — 192 GEL) will be subject to a 1.5% fee (192 GEL + 192 × 1.5%), and the total transaction amount will be 194.88 GEL.

The fee will not apply to transactions below 5 GEL.

The fee will not apply to local payments (Wolt, Glovo, Bolt, etc.).

During the payment process, only the transaction amount will be displayed to the customer, without the fee. The corresponding fee will be charged separately from the transaction.

Additionally, if the foreign merchant refunds the transaction amount to the customer’s account, the fee will not be refunded.
