Petre Otskheli - Eternally Modern

petre otskheli banner

Petre Otskheli’s work reflects the ideas of Constructivism that shaped his era, while also developing a distinct artistic language of its own. Alongside the political aspirations of Constructivism, Otskheli built his visual world upon mythological and cosmological narratives. As a result, his figures are defined by symbolic strength and emotional intensity.

Today, Constructivism is regarded as a significant historical movement, much of which remains associated with the avant-garde utopian ideals of the twentieth century. Yet many of its key concepts continue to resonate within contemporary artistic research and discourse. In this context, Otskheli’s work stands as a remarkable example of the movement’s enduring relevance.

Over the years, numerous exhibitions have been dedicated to Petre Otskheli’s legacy. During the past decade, catalogues of his work have been published alongside scholarly studies and critical essays. In 2016, his work was featured on the website of the Google Cultural Institute, making Otskheli the first Georgian artist to be presented within the virtual exhibition platform of one of the world’s largest cultural initiatives.
